Karmann Ghia Coupe 1962
Bought as Project car, 38 years ago.
Project now 95 to 98% complete.
Unable to finish, due to ill health which now prevents my dream happening.
Completely rust free, with much money spent on the process, including new rocker door sills (where they all rust out).
Recent receipts supplied for $35,000AUD.
Major item purchased was brand new 240 HP engine from CB Performance (USA), pictured, matched to Rancho (USA) transaxle, billet Aluminium side plates, built specially for this engine.
This motor won a competition in the States for the most powerful non-turbo, non-fuel injected VW boxer engine. Naturally aspirated via 48mm IDA Weber carbs, bored to 51.5mm. (Never known done before).
MSD Ignition, with launch control, completely re-wired, under-fender oil cooling, pictured, with laptop connection for fuel tuning.
Front end lowered (adjustable), rear end with racing side plates and Porsche Torsion Bars.
Wheels are very rare (and expensive) Porsche Gasburner 914/6, full magnesium (not mag-alloy). These are collectors items in USA, being about half the weight of normal mags.
Every nut & bolt on this car is replaced with stainless & "every component" is upgraded to maximum specification, except steering box, which is also new.
Seats are Recaro Sport, supplied newly re-covered in black leather.
New windscreen & all interior is sound-deaded with Duromat. Bodywork is two-pack epoxy, which needs final polish via rub-back (or lacquer spray if preferred).
The 'on road' performance of this beast is frightening, believe me.
